Irish owned Max Benjamin, is run by two brothers Mark and David Van den Bergh.
Named after their nephews, Max and Ben, who are the sons of their sister Orla (founder of the company), they have been producing high quality candles since the early 1990's.
The collection has evolved over the years from the original Oberg range of hand poured pillar candles into what is now an international brand which currently includes 17 fragrances of luxury natural wax candles as well as fragrance diffusers and a hand and body care range.
The Max Benjamin brand has grown to become the choice of fragranced soy candles not only around Ireland but we also supply high end retail outlets including exclusive department stores and perfumeries in London, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland and Japan.
Mark and David’s sister Orla originally started the company. She learned her candle making skills in the US while working there in the early 1990s. While in the U.S. she was lovingly taught by a master chandler the intricacies of how to skilfully produce the finest handmade candles in a variety of different forms. The knowledge and wisdom given to her of the secrets of blending waxes and mixing essential oils was something which she naturally understood, but never forgot. Upon her return to Ireland, she brought the secrets she had learned and used them to produce what were considered the finest candles in the country. She hosted what became known as ‘candle parties’ in Enniskerry where she invited her family and many friends to join her to sample and buy the best of what she produced.
When Mark joined the company, followed by David, the Oberg brand of handmade church style candles was within a short space of time selling in the finest boutique retail outlets in the country, including famous stores like Brown Thomas. Within a short space of time the company were producing candles for The Conran Shop, House of Fraser, John Lewis and Selfridges.
Within the past five years the Max Benjamin brand has grown to include a wider range of candles, diffusers as well as Hand and Body products and to this day remains among the favourite of its kind amongst Ireland’s top retailers as well as creating a strong international market, selling across the UK, Europe and Japan.
