Traditional wines produced with modern systems: this is the philosophy of Villa Poggio Salvi. Because wine is made in the vineyard, but in the cellar you need to know how to accompany it with wisdom, respecting the characteristics that each vintage offers. Villa Due to its structure and modernity, Poggio Salvi is a company that looks to the future while respecting the past based on the simple elegance of Sangiovese Grosso aged in large-capacity oak barrels as per historical tradition. Villa Poggio Salvi owes its name to the happy location on the southern side of Montalcino overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The clean air, the scents that come from the thick holm oak forests that surround the company and from the Mediterranean scrub, have attracted people coming from the Maremma here since ancient times. Poggio Salvi, precisely, the " Poggio della Salute" as it has always been considered a healthy and pure area, where already in past centuries people found refuge to get away from the most unhealthy areas infested with diseases. In the Historical Archives of the Municipality of Montalcino this place was already known in 1500 for wines that enriched the tables of the most prestigious people. Captivated by the beauty of the landscape, in 1979 Eng. Pierluigi Tagliabue decides to purchase the company and begins the renovation of the estate. Today Villa Poggio Salvi has 21 hectares of vineyards in Montalcino, all planted with Sangiovese Grosso clones. The optimal altitude contained between 300 and 500 meters, the soil rich in marl and the breeze coming from the Tyrrhenian Sea, maintain the ideal soil and the perfect microclimate for the vineyards. Entering the world of wine is inebriating with a too fascinating a microcosm, such that in 1998 the company was enriched with a new estate in the land of Chianti, "Casavecchia", where Chianti Colli Senesi, Tosco and Lavischio, our Sangiovese and Merlot-based IGTs are produced. Due to its structure and modernity, Villa Poggio Salvi is a company that looks to the future and is run with passion and competence by Pierluigi Tagliabue and his nephew, winemaker Luca Belingardi.
