BIG GREEN EGG The idea of ??the Big Green Egg was born in East Asia. Inspired by a clay cooking vessel developed about 3,000 years ago in China, the Japanese embraced this idea by calling it Kamado (fireplace oven). Centuries later, just after World War II, Americans in Japan discovered the Kamado. Introduced in 1974, the clay used in the first barbecue models was replaced by a ceramic specially developed by NASA to ensure that modern Big Green Eggs are long-lasting even in extreme climate conditions.
