ALWAYS THE ORIGINAL ......
Few companies in the world have invented the product they sell, let alone those that bear the name of the inventor: Berkel is one of them.
For years, the young Dutchman Wilhelmus Adrianus Van Berkel tried to combine his job as a butcher and his passion for mechanics. It took months of experiments but in the end his patience was rewarded. Finally, after many attempts, he put together two ideas are simple but brilliant: a concave blade, which reproduce accurately the movement of the hand / knife, and a mobile plate that ran towards the blade. Thus was born the slicer. Van Berkel, however, did not have the means necessary to switch to the production of his car. He found then a printing press which was under bankruptcy. He introduced himself to the owner and proposed
to transform the typography in a laboratory for the manufacture of its slicers. So it was that October 12, 1898, Van Berkel in Rotterdam founded the first factory of slicing the world.
Thanks to the innovative spirit of Van Berkel, the first year of Van Berkel's Patent Company Ltd ended with the delivery of 84 slicers.
In 1910, Van Berkel's Patent Company Ltd. was the first company worldwide to introduce an innovative system of payment by installments for the times.
In the difficult period between the two world wars, the core business of the slicer was added to the production of scales that gave the company a new sales push.
After 1945, Berkel potentiated its distribution and sales network finally conquering the world market factories and branches were born in Italy, England, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, USA, Canada, Argentina and Mexico. He was born the myth.
