The history of the company begins way back in 1890, when Alfonso Priorelli, then just over twenty years old, inherited the Podere Castagna Alta estate from his father Luigi, located in one of the most characteristic areas of Umbria, among the splendid hills that connect Assisi, Gubbio and Perugia. The young Alfonso, upon his arrival at the estate, found a situation in a state of abandonment and degradation, but he immediately understood that the area was strongly suited to olive growing thanks to its microclimate and its soils limestone and began intense work aimed at recovering the old olive groves dating back to the 18th century and creating new ones. In a few years, thanks to his innate qualities as an olive grower and many sacrifices, he reached his goal: the production of that oil excellent that he loved to call "my green gold". After various generational changes, 100 years after the beginning of the activity undertaken by Alfonso, the company, starting from the 90s, has a new vital boost thanks to the intervention of Massimo and Paolo Pencelli, great-grandsons of the founder, who decided to invest new resources in the olive growing activity. The brothers, at their debut in the company, immediately realized that to make their extra virgin olive oils known outside Umbria they had to focus on excellence, therefore on the production of olive oils great level. Thanks to targeted investments, new intensive olive groves have been created, a new continuous cycle oil mill, a bottling plant under a clean room and a large air-conditioned storage room. All this was achieved in compliance with nature; Podere Castagna Alta has in fact been a certified organic company since 1997.
